Over time, all fine jewelry begins to lose its shine and may tarnish. Gemstones may appear dull due to deposits of debris and daily grime.
If your unique piece appears less shiny, buff it with a soft cloth.
You can also gently clean your unique piece with warm water and mild dish soap, using a soft toothbrush to help clear away debris.
Sterling silver pieces can also be cleaned with a toothbrush and paste of baking soda and water. Rinse with water and dry completely.
An ultrasonic cleaner is best used by a professional but if you use one, be aware it can damage certain gemstones. Organic gemstones such as pearls, coral, ivory, and amber are not suitable for an ultrasonic cleaner. Tanzanite, moonstone, opal, turquoise and topaz are not suitable for an ultrasonic cleaner and can be damaged by heat and temperature changes.
